Dear Maureen,
As a designer, I rely heavily on my trades to carry out my vision. I'm only as good as my team. When the dining room cabinet, with your hand painted art deco mural was revealed to the client, she literally sat down and cried tears of joy. She kept repeating how fortunate she is to have something so special and unusual gracing her new home. From the moment we met, you really understood what I wanted, and captured it immediately. You were on time, on budget and did an outstanding job.

For the next project, your beautiful rendering of the condo lobby told the story of what I was trying to achieve so much better than a computer generated drawing could have.

I look forward to working together often in the future. You make me look good!!!

Maureen's murals are beautiful!

Maureen Walton has created stunning murals throughout Quinte Mohawk School in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
The murals depict traditonal legends and make Quinte Mohawk a beautiful and culturally rich place to be. She has transformed the concrete block walls to gentle visions of the stories and symbols that evoke deep meaning and a strong sense of belonging for all our students. Maureen's contribution is immeasureable. She has a unique gift that honours the community and the people in the space. The mural project was so inclusive that students painted beside Maureen. What a wonderful experience!!

Skywoman, Three Sisters and Peacemaker

Maureen took on the huge task of making three breathtaking murals on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory at our Gallery and Cafe. These murals are a valuable teaching tool of our Mohawk teachings. People from all over the globe come to our First Nations Heritage site and all love the Murals and the powerful messages they convey. They are larger than life and are a beautiful landscape of color and heritage. If you are ever in the area, come down to Bayshore road by Mohawk Bay to view these beautiful works of art.

Everyone is thrilled, lots and lots of positive comments from staff and families. I am so happy that you were able to take on this project for us. I think it will truly make a huge difference in our residents wanting exit seek. The lilac's are perfect. Thanks a million!

It is such an honour to be able to write this reference letter and document the wonderful contributions that Maureen Walton has made to three of the schools in which I have been principal.

Ms Walton’s murals (eight in total) celebrate community, inclusivity, our aboriginal heritage, and creativity. The paintings are what she leaves behind. What she brings to the school is a feeling of excitement and commitment and enthusiasm. She always, always includes others in the creation of these murals. Students and adults pick up brushes and learn about her craft and about the content of the murals. She is very sensitive to the needs and talents of those who are helping or those who are watching. She is never too busy or too engrossed in her work to miss an opportunity to educate others. Despite her incredible talent and experience as a muralist, no one is ever intimidated by her because of her humility and calm, welcoming demeanor.

Three schools and eight visits and the effect in the school is always the same. There is a definite buzz of interest and excitement when Ms. Walton arrives. Individuals are small groups are soon “muralists in training”. Sometimes, teachers take their classes down to observe and ask questions. The murals, themselves, are used during the school year as teaching tools and we have student ambassadors who annually give tours to visitors who have heard about and are interested in the murals.

We start with an interest or a need which we communicate to Ms. Walton. She brings draft ideas and we go from there, sometimes close to one of the drafts, sometimes we combine elements from the drafts, and sometimes we go in a slightly different direction. Her flexibility and her love for her craft make her an incredibly interesting and wonderful artist and we look forward to her next mural, for we have more to say at our school through her art.

Watching Maureen transform our small plain bedroom into a riot of colour,critters,flora & fauna was a fascinating process. Day by day her freehand mural evolved & it is thrilling to know our children now have an environment to play & sleep in that is inspiring & unique to them.The end product is a truly creative piece of original art that we will cherish for many years.It was wonderful for Maureen to let our 3yr old help out in the beginning stages.

It is my pleasure to endorse and highly recommend artist Maureen Walton who has worked extensively in our school district over the last 7 years. In my role as Arts Coordinator I have had the opportunity to coordinate and observe her work on various projects during this time. Without exception, schools have been thrilled with the projects they have engaged Maureen to complete.

Maureen is a highly skilled, confident and adaptable artist who works extremely well within education and organizational settings to bring a high quality arts experience to the participants resulting in a professional product which will be enjoyed by the community for years to come. Her experience and time management allow her to accurately estimate the resources which will be required to bring each project to fruition in an expeditious manner. All communication is timely and responsive.

Maureen has a unique ability to work with students, staff and administration to garner ideas and inspiration to tell the community story through large scale artwork and murals. Every effort is made to include as many students as requested for the creation of the project. This may be a small group of students who work on the project from start to finish or the entire student community who will each have a hands-on experience with the creative process. Maureen is very open to incorporating additional ideas as the work progresses.

Maureen has a very quiet and unassuming persona when dealing with children and staff. She works with minimal supervision and interruption to the flow of the school day, while incorporating as many students as requested into the project. By working closely with small groups she is able to teach the skills required and nurture the young artists with whom she is working.

I feel very fortunate to have had Maureen bringing her work to our community and feel very strongly that other school districts and organizations will have the same positive arts experience.
